Bad news, good news

Welcome back to The Story, our 31-week journey through the Bible. This week finds us smack in the middle of the narrative, with those stiff-necked people of Israel once again following a misguided, idol-worshiping king – who leads them straight into exile. Nice work, Hosea.

Meanwhile, Hezekiah (taking his guidance from God via the prophet Isaiah) holds it together in Judah, and even tells the threatening king of Assyria,  ”Stuff it. God will save us.”

But Isaiah must keep it real, so he  gives the people of Judah the whole story: things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. The good news?  One day God will send a servant who changes everything.

If you’re following along with The Story and want to join one of our discussion groups, stick around after worship on Sundays or drop by Silver Maples on Wednesday evenings (7:30). Just arrived someplace warm and sunny, suddenly have extra time on your hands? Get reacquainted with the story of God’s people. You can still pick up a copy of The Story online, or through the church office.

New feature for the New Year!

Our Story resource page now features cheat sheets! (Sort of). From here on out the Food for Thought section will include the complete small group study guide for each chapter. So what, you say? So these study guides include a quick summary of the chapter,  plus questions for reflection and a head-start on next week’s reading.
